World Mental Health
Day🌎🧠
Anyone who's ever had acne knows that it's more than skin deep — serious skin conditions and acne alike can have both mental and emotional effects. The symptoms of acne transcend the physical, as it can negatively affect self-esteem and potentially lead to anxiety and depression.
Many studies are showing a link between acne and depression. People with acne are at a much higher risk of depression in the first few years after their skin is affected, with it having a substantial impact on overall mental health.
Unfortunately, there is a culture of shame and stigma around acne, and with our self-confidence intimately connected to our complexion, this can be devastating. Adult acne breakouts occur well into our 20’s, 30’s and 40’s.
However, we are starting to a shift ✨
The way society perceives adult acne as a whole, has the potential to make it a little less depressing. "Acne acceptance" is starting to enter the lexicon. The Bachelorette, @hannahbrown, talks about being on Accutane and A-list celebrities, a class of people historically known for being unrealistically good-looking, show off their breakouts on Instagram. Normalizing acne is starting to flourish as a majority of people have / will suffer from acne at some point in their life. It’s important to know that you are not alone.
At CLEARstem Skincare, we understand the damage acne can have on our mental health. Our mission is to not only provide professional strength products to allow your skin to heal, but also provide education and preventative steps.
