"I am a firm believer that disabilities DO NOT change who a person is in anyway shape or form, yet people with disabilities are still treated with outdated information when it comes to treatment, discriminatory belief systems and stigma. Just because someone has a disability it does not give you the right to bully them, or does not give you the right to be ableist towards them. They. Are. Still. Human. Beings. ‼️ I’m a bilateral below knee amputee - but also suffer from severe fibromyalgia, cfs, treatment resistant depression, complex post traumatic stress disorder, generalised anxiety disorder and other things in regards to my accident 4 years ago. I haven’t been able to work since this. I am proud of who I am, and I never try to let what I go through stop me - but the symptoms, flare ups, pain, isolation and everything that has come with it has been severely debilitating. Having a disability isn’t fun - experiencing #chronicillness & #chronicpain on top of it all has been defeating. It has changed the way I have had to do things, but it hasn’t changed who I am as a person and it never will. Yes it isn’t all easy, not being able to work currently pisses me off but I am hopeful I will be able to. This month I encourage you to read blogs from those with a disability, try to educate yourselves on conditions those you know might have, buy a book written by a disabled person, support disabled people’s businesses and generally speaking, as we always should be - treat us with respect. My illnesses and disability may stop me from what you are able to do, but I am proud of who I am, and no disability will take that away from me."
