Introducing Coretta Scott King:
The activist, writer and civil rights leader Coretta Scott was born in Alabama and attended the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, where she got her degree in voice. She married Martin Luther King Jr. in 1953 and worked alongside her husband in civil rights activism through the ‘60s. She continued work after his death, founding the MLK Jr. Center For Nonviolent Social Change in Atlanta and published her memoir, “My Life With Martin Luther King, Jr.” in 1969. She died in 2006, but her legacy in the civil rights movement has persisted.
