I definitely fell off this daily blogging thing. Much to my chagrin, the demands new contracts got the best of me. But I’m back and its personal…

In high school I determined one thing about life, I even spoke about it in a speech to the student body - The measure of your life is how you are remembered, determining the magnitude and impact you want to have on the world is the biggest decision we make as human beings.

One of the first things I believed I could have an impact on was music and entertainment.

What a lot of people may or may not know: nightlife definitely wasn’t a natural affectation for me. But having planned a number of charity, social events that culminated in co-chairing the frosh week committee, I realized loved the fact that you could see something you worked on impact people immediately. My good friends told me I would never be able to pull it off, and to this day people that have known me for a while tell me they are surprised that I was able to accomplish what I have, although in retrospect I don’t feel as if it has been much.

Initially, I came up with a few things I really wanted to do…

Those included:

- Be a part of a series or brand that I considered significant in its time (Bassmentality - thanks Cody,Sam,Biz,Zack,Dylan,Adam)

- Develop a series or brand that I would want to be associated with… for life (Course of Time - thanks Omar, Charlton + everyone who has come and played)

- Create a platform that allowed my friends to get international attention (thanks Cailen)

- Turn an empty room/space into exactly what I imagine it could be

- Develop an artist into something of merit

The last goal I don’t consider to be complete, nor do I think I will ever complete it. Ironically, what I would have considered to be an artist of merit has drastically changed since I initially set that goal, so booking a cross Canada tour for a friend while I was his “manager” for several months including dates in the states will have to satisfy that… for now. Honestly I live vicariously through the successes, and failures, of a number of friends who have successfully accomplished that last thing.

Some of the things I didn’t expect to have happen while trying to do what I envisioned in my head as being possible.

- Meet a number of people who would influence and impact the way that I not only think about the world, but also the way I think about myself.

- Pivot away from what I thought I wanted to do. Sometimes when you finally get what you want, you realize you don’t want it anymore. That lack of natural affectation for the industry caught up with me and was making me miserable on a daily basis.

- Discover that collaborating, supporting, and developing others is the best way to help yourself.

There are a number of people who I am thankful for their help. Working with others helps you overcome inadequacies and and you learn alongside them how you can improve.

I probably could have done a lot of things better, and DEFINITELY made a million mistakes and decisions I would change. The number one thing I would change is I would have tried to maintain the supportive attitude I had when I started out on that path.

Anyway, I’m trying to get there again, there involves a much different place with a much higher ceiling. In retrospect the things I’ve accomplished seem easy, hopefully I’ll feel the same way at the end of my next road.

- Found a company that impacts the daily lives of our users

- Positively impact the outcomes of as many proactive, creative, and entrepreneurial people who give me the opportunity to try and help

- Get paid to DJ in an irregular basis

Ironically - I again have friends telling me that the above aren’t in the cards. (Specifically the last one) But if I’ve learnt anything so far its that knowing where you want to be is the most important part of getting there. It will be interesting to see how this shapes the next decade of my life.
