This month’s Behind the Bar features Marina Velazquez, lead barista at our flagship Williamsburg café. She has been working with Devoción for the past 3 years, although she has more than 8 years of barista experience under her belt.
To Marina, coffee is healing. Her favorite part of being a barista is the sensation of creating medicine for people, giving them something that will wake them up and make them feel good. Having worked through the pandemic, Marina shares that although it was stressful, what kept her going was the amount of support and love from the community and being able to have such an important impact in people’s everyday lives.
One day, Marina dreams of owning her own coffee farm in Puerto Rico, where her family is from. Today, she shares with us her favorite drink with coconut cream. “Being Puerto Rican, coconut, and coconut cream in particular, is a very important part of our diet,” she explains. Caribbean Wake-Up Call
A sweet and comforting drink for year-round sipping that transports you to the beach for a good time. Fun to make, and even more fun to drink!
Ingredients:
4 oz of Cold Brew
4 oz of Oat Milk
2 oz of Coco Lopez Coconut Cream
1 tbsp Simple Syrup
Ice
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake to combine. Serve over ice and enjoy.
