BEHIND THE BAR: Meet Camilo Galvis. Pro barista and service technician from Bogotá, Galvis has been with Devoción for 5 years, although he’s been working in coffee for a decade now ever since he fell in love with it at his first job at Dunkin’ Donuts.
Galvis landed at Devoción after competing in (and winning!) several latte art throwdowns held by the company. He started out as a barista at our coffee shop in Bogotá, however his interest in learning more about everything coffee led him to a more dynamic position as a service tech and onsite educator with our wholesale clients.
His favorite part of the job is the problem solving element of troubleshooting coffee equipment, thriving on the challenge of taking apart the machines, searching for what’s wrong, and finding a solution, as it gives him a chance to be learning constantly as well as sharing this knowledge with others.
One day, Galvis hopes to be able to visit our cafés in New York and work as a barista and service technician with Devoción USA. Discover the recipe for his favorite coffee drink below.
Homemade Cold Brew
For those of you who prefer cold coffee no matter what the weather is outside! Yields 2 glasses.
Ingredients:
50 grams of Devoción Toro, ground coarsely for french press
570 mL filtered water, room temperature
Method:
Add the freshly ground coffee to a french press and mix in the water, stirring to combine. Cover and allow to steep for 14 hours. For best results, keep your cold brew at room temperature and away from direct sunlight. After 14 hours, strain the coffee grounds to avoid imparting bitterness. If the brew is too strong, dilute with cold water. Serve over ice.
