[NEW] Women in Coffee – La Laguna: Nohemy Cruz is no stranger to the city or the countryside. Growing up on her family farm in Ubaque, she left for Bogotá to study and work for 17 years, returning a few years ago to grow coffee and help run a coffee-grower’s association.
Now the Vice President, one of Nohemy’s main goals is to train women in all parts of the coffee production chain, from germination to processing to roasting and commercialization. Her focus on women and young people has strengthened and diversified the association and given opportunities to people in the region that allow them to start and run their own businesses.
La Laguna, named after the nearby lake considered sacred to the native Muisca people, is a sweet and full-bodied coffee with notes of chocolate, caramel and maple as well as fruity peach and orange notes.
