This morning I received an award, along with some outstanding coworkers, for making our school a safe and accepting place. A myriad of thoughts and emotions were going on for me. This isnt a big deal. This isnt a big deal. Sara, this is your job. You are just doing your job. Dont cry. Dont cry (totally cried?). But how could I not get emotional about something so near and dear to my heart? Creating safe environments is the reason why I work. To learn and unlearn and slash stereotypes and make people feel welcome. That is my job. But it is also my heart. And when you show up to your job aligning yourself to your heart, amazing things can happen. This is no exception. All I'm saying y'all, is that when you do something that wonderfully aligns to your gut, you find it weird when someone awards you for it. I'm so grateful but also moreso reflective of the fact that so many of us do amazing things, every day. why do we need an award to remind us of them?
