Word Table Light, by @studio__word, was inspired by the structure and texture of Doric columns. The Doric order is the oldest, and simplest, of the three classical orders of Greek architecture. In a contemporary twist on the traditionally stocky Doric style, Word's form is strictly cylindrical, without a wider base. The vertical surface of the light is fluted, both on the stem and the head, producing rhythmic, rippling shadows. While the light is 3D-printed in corn bioplastic, its milky, translucent white color lends the atmosphere of smooth, finished marble from a distance. At night, it pours out a surprisingly generous amount of warm light to brighten spaces small and large. Photograph by @thismintymoment.
