Paul Revere Williams, renowned architect and native Angeleno, would have been 127 this week. If you've spent enough time in SoCal, you may very well have witnessed his far-reaching imprint without knowing it. From the grand @saksfifthavenue building and the fabulous @bevhillshotel (both situated in Beverly Hills), to the legendary private residences dotting L.A. (designed for entertainers like Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz and Frank Sinatra), Williams' work was both respected and abundant during his decades-long career. Known as the "Architect to the Stars," he became the first Black member of the American Institute of Architects, as well as its first fellow — a feat nearly unimaginable in 1957. Pictured here is the gently curved interior for the Palm Springs Tennis Club, designed by Williams in 1947 and one of the earliest, and most definitive, examples of California Modernism.
