Built onto a slope in the back of his Garden of Cosmic Speculation in Dumfriesshire, Scotland, the sidewinding installation represents cosmic evolution over 13 billion years, starting at the top in the present day. As it descends into the murky pond below, the staircase contains 25 landings symbolizing momentous shifts in understanding and knowledge.
