Last week, Ieoh Ming Pei passed away at the age of 102. More commonly known as I.M. Pei, the creative genius behind Paris’s Louvre Pyramid was a giant in the field of architecture who produced stunning works well into his nineties. Pictured above is the offshore Museum of Islamic Art in Qatar, designed by a 91-year old Pei after he was coaxed out of retirement. Pei was known for his skillful arrangement of simple geometric shapes, as well as rejecting the confines of a global Western style. The result, in this case, was both a tribute to Muslim architecture and a monument to sleek, audacious modernism. #ripimpei
