Florence Knoll Bassett was an established designer and architect in her own right when she joined the legendary Knoll furniture company founded by Hans Knoll in 1943. With her multidisciplinary approach, Knoll Bassett practiced a philosophy of “total design” — one that considered form and whole environments at every scale. She ardently maintained that she did not merely decorate space. She created it. Featured here is the Knoll Showroom in San Francisco, California, 1954. Courtesy of Knoll, Inc.
