Located in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles, Case Study House 8: The Eames House is one of roughly two dozen homes constructed as part of Arts and Architecture magazine’s Case Study House Program. The program was a challenge to the architectural community to design a series of innovative, low-cost, prototypical modern houses that would serve the needs of postwar families and use materials and techniques derived from the experiences of the Second World War.
Built in 1949, Ray and Charles Eames designed a home for a married couple working in design and graphic arts, whose children were no longer living at home. It served as their house and studio for the remainder of their lives.
