Becoming a mother ignited a desire inside me to protect. Which led me down a path of self discovery that included ways that I could work to make the world a safer, more equitable place for communities of color. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The death of George Floyd led me to examine how as a white woman and a business owner, I can use my privilege and platform to commit to anti-racist work. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Black mother mortality rates are as bad today as in 1850. This is unacceptable. This is a function of systemic racism. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There are organizations hard at work to change the ways black women and mothers receive health care. One such organization is Uzazi Village. Join me in donating to support their work. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In addition to my donation, I commit to continue my own anti-racist practice through listening to and learning from black, female leaders. To reading and confronting my own biases. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I am sharing what I am doing not to garner likes, rather to encourage you to act as well. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #blm #maternalhealth #builtlikeamother #howiduoFIT #fitpregnancy #duoFITpregnancy #embracethebump #activepregnancy #momlife
