It is with immense pain and overwhelming disbelief that I share that our precious Austin passed away peacefully last week. When he was born, Austin was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease and he endured extraordinary challenges that he fought incredibly hard to overcome. His little body simply couldn’t handle anymore, and while Justin and I are utterly heartbroken, we know that our baby boy is finally at peace. In his short time on this Earth, Austin instilled a strength in me that I never knew was possible. It is my greatest honor that he chose me as his mother, and I will carry that sense of purpose with me forever.
Since announcing Austin's birth, I have connected with so many of you about your journeys into motherhood, the challenges of being NICU moms, and the anguish of losing a child. While it’s a path that I never imagined I would walk down, the community of people who have opened their hearts to me and shared their own stories of grief have helped me to feel less alone and given me hope that, with time, healing is possible. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your prayers, messages, thoughts and support - it means the world to me.
And to Austin, my beautiful baby boy — thank you for showing me what it means to love, to fight, to be a mother. You have inspired me in so many ways. I will devote my life to keeping your legacy alive by sharing your story and supporting families who are faced with similar, unimaginable obstacles. I promise I will make you proud.
