*** TUESDAY TRANSFORMATION *** —————- I look back at this second image of when the SIPs panels were going up and I think that was one of the most exciting parts of the build. To see the reality of what the house was actually going to be rather than having to imagine every detail in my head. —————- ** SIPs PANELS ** We used structurally insulated panels (sip’s) as they create a super insulated wall with a U-value of just 0.14 W/m²K. We added a further layer of continuous insulation internally taking our wall u-value to 0.11 W/m²K. Or roof and floor values were super low too. The windows are generally triple glazed. The combination of these elements helped us achieve an ‘A’ SAP rating 🙌. The panels are 225mm thick insulation faced in 15mm OSB either side. This system was from HEMSEC and we went with them as their panels are joined using osb splines on the face rather than timbers between. This is so there is then no cold bridge between abutting panels. Cold bridge is basically a path for cold to get from outside to inside, you want as little of these as possible, ultimate aim would be to have none at all.
Think about your house insulation like a giant duvet cover. Any gap or change to a different tog/filling type will have an effect on how warm or cold your house stays. —————- That’s my tuppence for the day 🤣.
