We LOOVE questions like this that offer us a chance to explain our product development thoughts.
We chose 5% lactobionic acid (LBA) in our formula instead of 8% or 10% to achieve a balance of effectiveness and gentleness, as well as to reduce the stickiness feeling higher LBA products can have, such as a competitor's 10% LBA. While it is true that most direct studies of LBA is for 8% or 10%, 5% is still plenty, just like 3.1415926% glycolic acid is still effective under the right pH vs. the mostly studied 5% or 10%, even though there isn't a direct study for the pi% of glycolic acid.
That being said, Oat Milk PHA Serum is more than just an exfoliating serum, it's also an intense hydrating and calming serum for maintaining a healthy barrier. If you would like a stronger exfoliating effect, we would suggest to combine our Oat Milk PHA Serum with retinoids or other AHAs and BHA.
