Benzoyl peroxide (BPO) is an effective OCT acne treatment that primarily works by reducing acne bacterial count. BPO and acids combo is not a stranger to people who suffer from breakouts, it's a common multi-step system in many acne skincare routines.
[WHY DOES THE ACID + BPO COMBO WORK]
Benzoyl peroxide has long been combined with ingredients that help to increase skin cell turnover, studies have shown that BPO works synergistically well with retinoids like adapalene and salicylic acid. [1][2]
The same mechanism of why BPO works well with adapalene and SA can also be applied to AHAs and PHAs. Although there are no direct studies to show efficacy combining a PHA like lactobionic acid and BPO, we could still conclude that those two ingredients work exceptionally well together, especially for those that have more sensitive skins, since lactobionic acid is way more gentle compared to AHAs.
