Happy #WorldRainforestDay! 🌳🎉 Covering less than 3% of the Earth's surface, tropical rainforests are home to over half of our planet's terrestrial animal species. Incredible creatures such as sloths, jaguars, poison dart frogs, mountain gorillas, orangutans – and more!
Rainforests are essential to our survival and helping to mitigate the impacts of climate change. They absorb carbon dioxide, stabilise climate patterns and provide a vital habitat. Yet every minute, 40 football fields of rainforests are lost due to logging, fires and monoculture plantations (such as palm oil). How can we even comprehend this level of destruction?
Palm oil - being a cheap and efficient ingredient to produce - is found in almost 50% of supermarket stock and 95% of health and beauty products. This industry is devastating for indigenous people, the planet and the animals we share it with so for us, palm free is non-negotiable. This stance isn't new. It's one we have not compromised on since we made our first shampoo bar eight years ago. On every single product we make, you'll see our official palm oil free certification.
How else can we help?
- Learn more about rainforests & the issues they face.
- Choose products that don't contain palm oil - look for certifications or swipe for a helpful list of ingredients that commonly contain palm!
- Directly support organisations like our partners, @rainforesttrust, who protect important animal habitats around the globe 🌎
- Look into 'adopting' orangutans or other rainforest creatures - this will ensure you care for their rehabilitation and potential release back into the wild 💚
