On Orange Shirt Day, we were on day three of the shoot for @plaansharoo. Elder Marlene Carriere came out to help us start the day in a good way. I told a story about my family, and, well, honestly, it’s hard to describe what that meant to start the day this way. We all had a lot of feelings to feel. I cried a medium amount, and then we got going.
It was a big day. A day where pretty much everything that could have gone wrong did indeed go wrong (see final slide for video of us accidentally jettisoning @jjwiklund and $300,000 of camera gear that was remarkably undamaged).
There are two ways you can take that. You can say: wow, that must mean we should stop before it goes really wrong. Makes sense! I have been doing that a lot, in my life, to stay safe. To survive.
Or… you could take it the way I have been thinking about that day, and that shoot, and so many other things I’ve been fortunate enough to live. Which is to say: it must have meant you had to do it all along, if all those things went wrong and still it worked out okay.
Maybe the creator wasn’t spiting you. Maybe the creator was looking out for you.
I can’t wait to show you all this film. And to keep making them. Thank you all for trusting me so far.
Huge maarsii to @humanfrenchfry, whose pics you see here, and who really captured that day better than I could have ever hoped.
