Happy Lunar New Year to all! 𧧠This is Tina Luu, co-founder of Fable, jumping on to wish you all a prosperous and healthy year with some photos and reflections.â¨â¨Around this time of the year, I look forward to the boisterous occasion with large gatherings of all my extended family. Itâs a big reunion with endless amounts of delicious food, and the added bonus of collecting red pockets from your aunties and uncles. And while we canât celebrate as we normally do this year, one tradition that wonât change is the food.
My family is Chinese Vietnamese, so I luckily grew up with both cultures and cuisines. Every year, leading up to Lunar New Year, I have fond childhood memories of making BĂĄnh chĆ°ng with my poh ma (grandma) and mother. We would spend our afternoons delicately stuffing and tightly wrapping glutinous rice with mung beans in banana leaves while listening to old stories about their life back in Vietnam.
Now with a family of my own, it is important for me to teach my children about my culture and ancestry through food, passing on these traditions to the next generation to keep our memories and stories alive.
