Year 8 of #RunLongBeach longbeachmarathon ✅
So many thoughts on this one. Still trying to process it all.
First official race back since Covid, but possibly the last for this #motherrunner carrying “D” in the stroller. (We’ll seeeee)
I was looking back at old pictures and cleaning out some memory boxes a couple of nights before the race when I stumbled upon an old birthday card from my grandpa. I opened it and was surprised when a handful of 💸bills fell out on to my lap. But it hit me in a way that felt more like opening a door to find your best friend jumping in to your arms to surprise you. Definitely shed some big tears knowing I wasn’t going to get that phone call after the race asking how it went and how he thought he “saw us on tv” that morning 😂💔❤️
A lot can change in 8 years.
There was a time when I couldn’t run down the street without getting winded.
There was a time when I would run nothing less than 3 miles every single day.
There was a time when I would beat myself up if I forgot to start my watch or track my miles/speed/time (because if you didn’t, did it really even happen?)
This race wasn’t my fastest
but it also wasn’t my slowest.
In fact, it felt good to go into it with no expectations other than to be present and just take it all in with the people that matter most.
In the end, isn’t that what life is all about?
Not really sure where I’m going with this…
But to answer your question Declan,
“Mama, did we win the race?!”
Yeah, I think it was a win for me 😘
