I’ve struggled a lot with body image lately.
.
It’s not something that is easy to share on here when I stand so firmly in my body image rants.
.
When I talk to others so often about accepting their bodies as they are.
When I do actually believe we don’t have to LOVE our physical appearance. That the way we look IS the least interesting thing about us.
.
But, I am also human. And switching from a decade of long distance running to straight powerlifting has changed my body composition. A lot.
.
I’ve put on muscle and clothes don’t fit the way they used to. I’ve had trouble accepting the need to buy a larger size in both pants and tops.
.
It’s made seeing family just another level of stressful, when there are so many that keep an eagle eye out for body changes. (Especially now: “no, grandma, that’s just a food baby. Not a real one in there.”)
.
All of this to say, the people on here giving you reminders about your body, your self-worth, you value NOT coming from your appearance — we struggle too. We’re in the trenches, battling through the hard days and celebrating the good moments.
.
I’ve started putting up sticky notes on my mirror with reminders like, ‘the way you look is the least interesting thing about you,’ ‘strong body, strong mind,’ and ‘you are safe HERE (in your own body).’
.
Your body is your most long term home. Make it a safe place to be. ❤️

Double tap if this resonated with you.
