A true win ✨
Winning the Ms Health & Fitness competition this year was a personal triumph, business accolade, but most importantly, the most incredible community building experience I’ve ever been apart of.
3 months postpartum, in the thick of this competition, I realized— “oh dang… I might really win this thing!”. Having been super in tune and delicate with my body after giving birth, I had the awareness of where I was vs. where I wanted to be for the cover of the magazine…
Giving my body 3 full months (the “4th trimester”) to rest and allow my body and organs to shift back to a semblance of “normal” (guys, body and organ shifting can take 6 months-1 year+ !), before starting physical activity. I calculated about a month until the winner’s photoshoot, prepared a realistic goal and gave it my all. The result is a very proud, 4 month’s postpartum new mama on the cover of a fitness magazine— diastasis recti (more about this in a future post!) and all.
Using our very humble/ ‘quarantine footage’ business account, I couldn’t believe the amount of support flowing in from followers and clients who came forward to say how much our programs and videos helped them throughout the (seemingly never ending) pandemic. Receiving these messages propelled my efforts to keep writing, keep training, and keep engaging.
And finally, along the same lines, the sense of community brought forth with shares, votes, messages and donations was the ultimate “WIN”. I had been used to being praised in the form of audience applause, but to actually hear the words of your support was enough to make my heart explode with gratitude.
