People often ask me, “Why do you do these competitions at 35 years old? Isn’t there enough things going on in life? Where do you find the time?” As an adult, we sometimes lose sight of things in life that bring us joy or things that make us who we are. Everyday is filled with the stress of our careers, daily chores, family needs, and the chaos around us that is “adulthood.”  Shawn introduced me to CrossFit when I was 27 and it became something Shawn and I enjoyed together every morning at 6am. It didn’t take long for CrossFit to become a huge part of our life. Through these 8 years, CrossFit is where we have made life long friends, the reason we have traveled to various parts of the country to both participate and watch competitions, and what led us to venture out and start our OWN CrossFit gym. CrossFit has been where, as “adults,” we have found joy in doing something we love.  So for those people who ask me for my *why*… it’s simple. CrossFit has helped me realize that just because I am an adult and just because I’m a certain age doesn’t mean I should lose sight of what makes me who I am. I’ve found that thing that brings me joy. The joyful feeling I remember I felt as a kid when I opened that first present on Christmas day. So I encourage people to find that thing in life - a sport, a hobby, a book - that brings them joy. Because it’s joy that is my why. Joy is what CrossFit does for me.
