I was listening to a MindPump podcast the other day. Definitely one of my favorite podcasts and has been for years.
They brought up a GREAT point. I’ve always talked about this but the example they used is spot on.
Do you have a PLAN when you do go the gym?
Working at gyms for years, you get to chatting with members and I would say 75% of the time when I asked someone “hey! What are you doing today?” they would say, “I dunno 🤷🏻♀️ whatever I feel like”.
So like… no PLAN? Just random stuff that you like?
Sal on MindPump made the comment something to the extent of, “if we’re rating workout effectiveness on a scale of 1-10, no matter how much you know or how experienced you are, if you don’t have a PLAN, that effectiveness drops to a 2 IMMEDIATELY.”
This is SO true. To get the MOST out of your workouts, you need a PROGRESSIVE PLAN. Most people that go in and do random exercises on the spot, normally do things they’re good at or enjoy. They avoid things that are difficult, which means they are more than likely avoiding things they NEED.
They’re also missing out on the incredible benefits of progressive overload.
Bottom line - having a PLAN is critical. You are wasting your valuable time if you’re going to the gym and doing random things.
