I want to share something that happened recently.
I have a feeling it may have happened to some of you.
You follow me here, you know what I look like. You see a lot of me. I want you to, because I want you to see who I am. I want you to know me.
I’m proud of me. I love + appreciate who I am.
… but I want to share a secret with you.
… well into my 20s I never felt I was enough. Not thin enough, not small enough, not light enough
… I was always trying to lose 2 more pounds.
Maybe this sounds familiar.
Let’s fast forward 20+ years.
This is what I’ve learned-
My body is strong enough to ride my bike 1000s of miles a year
I hit backquat + deadlift PRs of over 250lbs each
I can climb a rope to the top of a two-story building
I can run marathons
I finished an Ironman in 13:29
I gave birth to two, nearly full-term healthy twin girls – at 5'1" that was an especially challenging feat
My body can and has done a lot for me.
I won’t lie. I haven’t stopped caring about physique completely.
… but I’ve STOPPED wishing for smaller, leaner muscles or thinner thighs
… it’s just not how my body is made.
Instead, I look at the body I have as my SUPERPOWER
… and I train the hell out of it!
I’m PROUD of all my body can do!
But …
… the other day a Facebook troll commented on one of my pics
… they said I was too muscular for my frame
… that I would look better if I were slimmer
… if I worked out less.
I felt like I was 12 again, looking in the mirror, comparing my body to other girls.
I don’t even KNOW the person who left this comment.
It STUNG because it tapped into all my old insecurities.
Last night I looked at my strong, athletic daughters, who are built a lot like me.
I thought about how to make them feel like they are enough.
And how proud I am of their hard work to be strong.
And I passed some of those kind words onto myself.
And I want you to give yourself some KIND words.
You are capable of taking on the world and you are enough.
