This week I haven’t wanted to go to the gym.
So I didn’t.
Haven’t been since last Saturday - and I think it’s the best thing I could have done for my mental health.
Hear me out: I was pushing to do EVERYTHING these last few weeks. Moving apartments (mostly solo - huge s/o to mom for helping me finish up the last little bit & clean the old place), four lifts, 1-3 SPENGA sessions, working with clients (in person and online), doing my main job… it’s just been a lot.
My self care took a seat on the back burner. And I know some of you might think, “isn’t exercise a form of self care?”. Sure, it can be. But if you’re waking up and dreading doing something, it’s probably not helping you right now. I’m not in meet prep - I don’t HAVE to force anything right now, but I was making myself feel like a failure if I wasn’t 1000% on top of everything.
Was straight forward with Ryann in our Monday check-in, and she gave me a lot of grace but also some tough love to remember to take care of ME. Thankful to have her in my corner 🫶🏼
So this week I’ve done my CBT every morning to self-assess how I’m feeling and what I actually want out of the day, I’ve nourished my body with rest and food that sounded good in the moment AND long-run, spent lots of time with mom, journaled at night to close out the day, and didn’t force a damn thing when it came to exercise.
And you know what?
Now I’m excited to get back into the gym on Monday.
I’m excited to start tracking again today.
I’m starting to feel more clear on what’s right for ME going forward.
One week “off” of anything isn’t going to derail you unless it’s something that wasn’t meant for you in the first place. I know my goals and what I want to accomplish, and we’re ready to dig back in.
You can’t pour out of an empty cup.
XOXO, Ris
