I was blessed with naïveté as a young 21 year old discovering the gym for the first time. Everything was rainbows and butterflies - unlimited time, zero work stress, lacking muscle development but basically already at my goal body fat percentage, and no joint pain or injuries because I had never pushed my body before.
12 years later, my relationship with the gym looks a little different, as I’m sure my millennial friends reading this can relate to. Other people and obligations sometimes (often times) have to come first. And many days you’re left with zero energy or desire to show up for yourself. Not to mention the warm-up taking just as long as the workout. 😂
But growing up and taking on more responsibilities doesn’t mean you don’t deserve to take care of yourself too, and especially to one day find your way back to that simple joy you felt after a great workout.
It’s hard to restart what you let go of years ago, but it’s not impossible. It just takes making that choice today, and again tomorrow, and again the next day, and eventually that choice becomes a habit, that habit becomes months and years of consistency, and you’ll wake up one day realizing you achieved your goal.
All we have is time. Instead of focusing on the time you’ve lost, focus on what you can do with the time ahead of you.
