The FAMOUS Farmer’s Carry!! Let’s talk about why you should include this staple movement into your training, benefits, and some variations:
Farmer’s Carry: is a FUNCTIONAL movement, which means…. It targets and conditions the body as a whole!!
🚀 Some of the Benefits include
✅ Improved Core Stability: the muscles working together create spinal stabilization, often called “core bracing.” This ensures the spine remains neutral and protects against both shear and compressive forces.
✅ Improved Posture and Shoulder Stability: Targeting the posterior chain to help with the slumping posture we see often. Heavy farmers’ walks have shown to help pull down the rib cage while bracing through the midsection, improving diaphragmatic position and correcting spinal dysfunction.
✅ Grip Strength: Heavy carries will help to challenge overall grip strength. Along with strengthening the shoulders; these two aspects can mean better endurance for barbell cycling, bar & ring gymnastics, and lifting heavy dumbbells.
🚀 Variations:
🌟Heavier dumbbells: Works full body, challenges grip, and posterior chain.
🌟Offset Carry: One hand grips lighter dumbbell, other hand grips a heavier one. Challenges the core to work harder and targets stabilizing muscles around the spine.
🌟90 Degree Kettlebell Carry: Forces the shoulder to stabilize while challenging the small stabilizing muscles around the shoulder joint.
