If I could sum up my pre-teen years with one picture it would be this. Luke Perry in an ad for the Gap. He and the Gap were my two biggest aspirations as a kid. So much so that my parents bought me clothes there when they couldn't afford it, and my mom got Luke Perry's autograph for me when she saw him out one night and had it laminated for me. I wasn't even ten and was already defining my worth based on men and clothes. So many many many years followed in the same pattern. Different men to idolize, different clothes to covet. Now I wear the same uniform daily (ripped jeans and plain shirt and leather jacket and self love pinky ring) and come home to a good man that is nothing like the dangerous out of reach Dylan McKay's of my youth.
