"Early rose-cuts were fashioned from diamond rough that easily lent itself to this flat-bottomed dome-topped design. Varying numbers of triangular facets are responsible for the rose-cut’s amped-up level of scintillation and sparkle." From Lang Antiques' "Rose-Cut Diamonds: Their Beauty and Allure" (langantiques.com/university/rose-cut/) . Bet they wouldn't have guessed back then that one day we would grow our own diamonds and cut them in this old style! Generally the rough, even when grown from a machine, dictates the appropriate shape of cut. A thin slab is a good candidate. Photographed here is one from our collection: a 0.57 ct Smoky Beige Half Moon. We think this would look very cool in a custom piece with a line of colourless diamonds set next to the flat edge of this stone. . . . #loosediamonds #uniquegems #rosecut #rosecuts #akaragold #peopleplusplanet #BCorp #RJC #Fairmined #fairtrade #fairtradegold #askforAGS #weareanAGSjeweler #jewelersmutual #ethicalmetalsmiths #responsiblysourced
