We often have clients ask if we can make their wedding bands out of tungsten carbide or titanium. The answer is no. —————————————-
These metals are incredibly stiff (tungsten carbide) and strong (titanium) with melting temperatures much higher than gold. Gold is nice and malleable for us to work with and allows us to do repair work. The tungsten and titanium rings you see online are manufactured at scale, and cannot be resized or repaired. It simply is not feasible for us to work with tungsten or titanium.
.
In addition, tungsten carbide is almost as hard as diamond, at 9-9.5 on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness. Consider that a ring made out of this material might scratch things that you touch, like a copper mug or a brass door handle. 😢
