A Baby, A Beast — a project by artist @mari.koppanen who grew a scoby for 3 months
“An exploration of the living and non-living. The cellulose-based culture hosts different types of yeast and bacteria allowing a tactile experience of the complex symbiotic relationships between fungi and bacteria. This biofilm, sometimes referred as ’baby’ or ’mother’, is kept alive by letting it eat, breathe, and stay warm.”
