Posted by• @surfersforclimate Today the water people of the Surf Coast assembled on the shores of Wadawurrang Country as part of the @blackgirlssurf world wide movement in honour and support of our indigenous and POC sisters and brothers. In Australia the Solidarity in Surf movement not only stands in solidarity with the death of George Floyd and Black Lives Matter movement but confronts the ongoing injustice of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia.
Topped by a surfboard creation of the word ‘NYAL’ (=together) we shared personal stories and experiences that amplified a unified cry against systemic racism and any prejudice in the surf community.
@Belinda baggs was on the sand representing Us- “ I understand that as a white surfer, I will never understand! I can however, pledge to use my privilege to advocate, demand justice, equality, care of country and education of the true Australian culture.
Unity is the only way to create real and lasting change.
