After just a 2 hour drive from Christchurch we entered the unique Arrowsmith Mountain Range through a long gravel road, then ditched the car to start the 16km walk. We climbed up a very poorly marked track through river bed, scree, bog, and a whole lot of matagouri and were elated to finally find the Cameron hut and its famous purple door at 1275m elevation!
