LYMPHATIC EDEMA || or the swelling of the limbs is something that many, many women experience (including our very own @thefelicityevans), as a result of hormonal fluctuations or their overall blood circulation reducing and the increasing weight of the uterus, pressurising major blood vessels during pregnancy. Whilst this is a completely normal part of life (in pregnancy), it's also something that can be incredibly uncomfortable, and the discomfort of the swelling and inflammation can become increasingly distressing. During pregnancy, manual lymphatic drainage is one of the only things that can help (as it becomes more and more difficult to work out and contact muscles, which helps the lymphatic system flow) which is why we created Contour, our full body copper Gua Sha, for personal (home) use. Put simply, manual lymphatic drainage (or lymphatic massage) encourages the flow and release of excess lymphatic fluid within the tissues just beneath the skin. Additionally, lymphatic massage promotes better oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange improving nutrient flow to you, your skin and your baby. So you can flush the excess out, and get the good stuff going - so you can feel better and grow better - during a delicate and beautiful time x
