I am a daughter born on African soil, raised under the African sun and nourished by my second Mama, my African Mama - Joyce. ⠀
⠀
My father started a multi-racial school at a time when, to put white kids, black kids and brown kids next to each other in a classroom and give them each the same education was deemed radical. ⠀
⠀
This week in particular, we have been witness to the injustices, atrocities that minorities have endured at the hands of the powerful and oppressive, and I am also aware that due to my privilege of being born a certain skin colour, I cannot begin to understand them first hand. ⠀
⠀
As a Woman, as a Mother and as the Founder of this business, I know that we won’t get it right, but we will try. We will do our best to champion the rights of humanity. ⠀
⠀
I know that our words and actions will fall short. ⠀
⠀
I know that we may not say the right thing or say too much or too little. ⠀
⠀
But, to not stand up is to ignore and we cannot do that.⠀
⠀
Black Lives matter — Indigenous lives matter. ⠀
⠀
I know we will be criticized for taking a stance, and I know we don’t have the answers. ⠀
⠀
I can’t pretend to know how to navigate from here, but what we will promise is to listen, and use our platform for good, for justice, to try and give some voice to those who need it, for human rights and for humanity. ⠀
