A story, from @leilaalskaf:
“This saying is in Arabic and it means in translation to English ‘you are your own healer / you heal yourself.’
I’ve always wanted a tattoo in this exact spot, and the meaning of it in Arabic is so special & intimate to me. This picture, in light of the New Year, perfectly sums up the end of 2020 for me. Growth. Healing. Struggle. Poetry. Self-Love. This year, we have all gone through hell & back quite literally. It’s been devastating to watch from presidential elections, to COVID, wildfires, lockdowns, mental breakdowns, etc. etc. — we could all probably add hundreds of more things to this list.
This pandemic personally has tested me - no challenged me in ways I couldn’t imagine, especially mentally. When I look back on this year, I see the ways in which I literally hit rock bottom and climbed my way back up. My mental health was in crisis at a certain point this year and I struggled to climb my way back out and see the light at the end of the tunnel. It felt excruciating. Even though this year was challenging, horrible, absurd, tragic, and more it was NEEDED, and I still learned so much from it.”
