It’s the 3rd day of Adaptogens 101 and you’re almost experts! Now that you know what adaptogens do, we’re going to share a key piece of the adaptogen story: the conditions that any herb or fungi must satisfy to be classified as an “adaptogen”. This definition is very important, particularly in light of the unfortunate practice by some in the wellness industry to improperly refer to certain botanicals as adaptogens, or to improperly label products as having adaptogenic benefits. 𝗔𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗠𝗨𝗦𝗧 𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗳𝘆 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝟰 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗼𝘄. If they clearly don’t, they might be beneficial functional herbs, but they’re not adaptogens. **There are also herbs that experts believe COULD satisfy all 4 conditions, but for which this assumption hasn’t yet been verified by sufficient studies. These may one day join the ranks of true adaptogens!
