Looking for a new way to challenge yourself in the gym?
Try slowing down your rep tempo and focus on controlling the weight, both during the eccentric and concentric phase of the lift.
Most people focus on the concentric portion of exercises, but often neglect the eccentric.
The eccentric portion of an exercise is 50% of the lift and is very beneficial for building muscle.
For example, someone who is bench pressing works their muscles while pushing the weight up(concentric phase), but can work their muscles even harder by lowering the weight down to their chest as slowly as possible(eccentric phase).
This lifting technique enables you to get the most out of every single rep and increase muscle engagement without adding more weight or increasing the reps.
