Dance of joy in honour of being included in ‘20 COOLEST RETAILERS IN AUSTRALIA’ @insideretail Category: Fashion The cool factor: Keeping textile waste out of landfill by turning fashion discards into one-of-a-kind garments and selling pre-loved clothing online. Australian designer Kit Willow started KitX in 2015 to prove that fashion could be done differently – that it could be ethical and sustainable, rather than wasteful. Seven years later, she’s a leading voice in the conversation around conscious consumption in Australia. “KitX does things differently to most fashion labels,”Willow told Inside Retail. “We choose value and reinvestment back into exploring new fashion systems over discounting and promotion.” Famous for upcycling discarded denim into one-of-a-kind designer pieces, the brand recently opened an innovation space, the Future From Waste Lab in Melbourne, to raise awareness around the issue of textile waste in landfill. On top of this, KitX has also launched KitXchange, one of the first fully integrated fashion resale platforms in Australia. Willow sees this as key to extending the life of her garments, thus reducing their environmental impact. ‘This heralds a new era of commerce. One that moves away from transactional relationships and towards something more meaningful and longer term.. And as we move into the era of the connected consumer, having the right mix of technological capabilities, omnichannel strategies and loyal brand communities will be key to unlocking today’s discerning shoppers both online and on the high street.’ Shaun Broughton @shopify #insideretail #coolestretailer #honour #kitx
