"What age is too young to talk about racism and social injustice?
How do you explain that level of hate to a 5 year old? Toddler even? Should you even have to?
Research has shown that children not only recognize race from a early age but can also develop a racial bias by age THREE TO FIVE!
So no, you can’t wait. You can’t put it off until they are older. But talking to your children about race and loving others isn’t enough either though.
Show them through your actions. Be the example they need on how to treat others. Never speak poorly of another race. Never make racial insensitive comments around them, and most importantly have families of other races in their lives as much as possible. Even if that’s just through Youtube or showing then your fav mommy bloggers Instagram page. (hint hint wink wink LOL)
It is so important we start this as young as possible if we are to ever see any real change! But it has to start at home. It has to start with us as parents. Our children are the future, it’s our duty to stop the hate, not only in ourselves but our children as well.”
