"This scar does not mean my body failed me. This scar means my life and Elle’s life were saved. I walked into the hospital with a BP of 196/128. Unbeknownst to myself and others that I had preeclampsia and that I could’ve had a seizure at any moment. The lights were immediately turned off and I was told to relax as much as possible. When things failed to progress I had no other options. They had to get the baby out so that they could get my pressure under control. I laid in the OR alone while Collin stood in the hallway while Elle was born. I could feel what they were doing so I was put to sleep. I woke up to see Collin holding a pink blanket in his arms. This is not what I had envisioned. After having a premature baby and a miscarriage I was ecstatic to have made it to 40+ weeks. It saddens me to think that people believe that “a c-section is the easy way out”. Having one does not make you any less of a mother. Period. There is nothing easy about having your organs pulled from your body, missing the moment your baby was born, or recovering from major abdominal surgery. Birth is not glamorous. I’ve been on both sides. I am beyond grateful for modern medicine that made it possible for me to bring my second daughter into this world in the safest way possible...for both of us. I am also insanely proud to wear this scar. It’s a reminder of the sacrifice and love I have for my daughter and the day she came earth side."
