“Hi! I’m @joannaknix the Founder and CEO of Knix and these are my twin daughters Lily and Mairi who, today, on #InternationalWomensDay, are celebrating their first birthday.
On IWD last year, I was getting ready to give birth and feeling nervous, scared, and excited. I was nervous for how my life would change with three kids under age 2 and for the outcome of some pregnancy complications I had endured.
I was excited to meet the two little humans my body had miraculously grown, but equal parts scared to bring two girls into the world knowing all the obstacles they’d have to overcome—obstacles I’ve experienced first-hand.
If I’m being honest, much of what we’ve done at Knix has been for our community as much as it has been for myself. This might sound selfish, but I needed to rewire my brain and learn to love myself in a world that constantly told me I wasn’t enough. I needed to see representation and overcome the gender bias I experienced throughout my life, in my career and in building Knix.
I needed to know I wasn’t alone in navigating pregnancy loss, postpartum depression, and my ever-evolving identity. As I drove to the hospital this time last year, I thought of all the ways my girls would have to be big and strong and all the ways Knix could continue to change the narrative for the next generation.
At Knix, we want to live in a world where strength is celebrated and honored in all its different forms. We want to empower people to feel proud for showing up and choosing their own path, whatever that path may look like.
