"Zuo Yue Zi. I’m honoring the Chinese tradition of 坐月子, “sitting the month” after giving birth.
The custom is to stay at home, rest, and support the body in healing for the first 30 or more days postpartum. Sometimes this period is referred to as “confinement”, but I like to think of it as a refuge instead. Ancestral wisdom emphasizes the importance of caring for the physical and emotional wellbeing of a mama in postpartum. It’s been a blessing to receive support and help with cooking and chores, so that I’m able to completely relax in bed and allow my body to recover.
As I’ve been feeling tender from the portal of birth and waves of new motherhood, the simplicity and peace of being at home without external distractions has been so beneficial. Savoring this precious postpartum time of rest, nourishment, and bonding with baby. 💖"
