For a more elongated oval, a ratio between 1.35 and 1.50 is most popular, while a ratio below 1.35 is typical for more rounded ovals. The most important characteristic of this diamond shape is its cut quality. A well-cut diamond will exhibit brilliance and fire, eliminating the “bow-tie effect”, where a dark shadow appears in the center of the stone. Symmetry is what maximizes the sparkle due to an even distribution and alignment of light.
