Sneak peek to our 0800 appointment of an Achilles' tendon repair surgery! This patient suffered from an acute injury to the largest and strongest tendon in the body, the Achilles. The Achilles' tendon function is to connect the calf muscles to the heel bone, which is crucial for walking and for push-off strength. Primary repair is done after rupture with an absorbable or non-absorbable suture in a variety of techniques. The most common method is an open repair as seen above. We Start with an incision made on the back of the lower leg starting just above the heel bone. After we find(s) the two ends of the ruptured tendon, these ends are sewn together with sutures.
