The new colorway of our Manifester's set releases on Thursday, featuring our newest inspiration Juju Watkins. Juju is a sophomore at Sierra Canyon High School in LA and is one of the top women's basketball players in the country. She walks in the room - a quiet, steady, confident force, regal even. She comes from a rich legacy of people, but she's her own person creating her own path with seemingly no effort. She inhabits her whole 6'1" foot self at such a tender age and shows us what's possible simply by being. We talk about the myth of having to "pay your dues". If you're gifted at something, if you're already "it", why do you have to go through a system that wasn't built for exceptional people like you? Who made up that concept anyway?...probably someone threatened by greatness! Luckily Juju rolls deep, hailing from a long line of ancestors who are no stranger to disrupting the status quo. Her great grandfather Ted Watkins Sr. founded the Watts Labor Community Action Committee to provide jobs and social services after the 1965 Watts riots, and her family continues to carry on his legacy. Author and academic Dr. Joy Degruy once shared an African proverb, "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." Juju, you're going far and we want to come with you.
